Tee off like a PGA Star at the Best Golf Courses in Dallas
Everyone who knows me knows I’m a die-hard Dallas Mavericks fan (champions forever!). You won’t find me missing a game, and my free time usually involves sinking some hoops on the court.
On the other hand, golf, for me, seemed about as exciting as watching paint dry. People in plaid whacking a ball around a field? Snoozefest.
Fast forward to a recent outing with a friend. One round on a gorgeous, manicured golf course, surrounded by fresh air and the satisfying thwack of a well-hit ball later, and let’s just say I was hooked!
Turns out, there’s more to golf than meets the eye.
So, whether you’re a complete newbie or a Tiger Woods in the making, I compiled this special list for you. Get ready to tee off on some of the best courses Dallas has to offer!

Tenison Park Golf Course is a golfer’s dream with not just one, but two 18-hole courses—Tenison Glen and Tenison Highlands.
Being a public course, affordability is a plus, but they don’t skimp on quality—the courses are well-maintained, and the carts even have GPS and interactive screens! That kind of tech is what you usually see at pricier courses, so major points for value.
The driving range is another win, with covered stalls for those hot Texas days. Just be aware, these get snapped up early, so arrive early if shade is important to you.
Now, let’s get to the courses themselves—Tenison Glen is their classic course and a great option for beginners or those on a tighter budget.
Tenison Highlands, on the other hand, is their championship course, known for being challenging but fair. Think rolling hills, water hazards, and some elevated tee boxes.
The only downside we heard about was a report of a car break-in in the parking lot, which, to be honest, may be an isolated case.
Pros
- Two 18-hole courses
- Well-maintained courses
- Carts have GPS and interactive screens
- Covered stalls on the driving range
- Affordable courses
Cons
- Report of car break-in in the parking lot
Best place to golf at
“Best place to golf at and because I’ve being playing there for 11 years with my dad that use to work there for 24 years highly recommended.”

The course was in amazing shape
“What an amazing day at this fine public golf course. The staff were so accommodating and the course was in amazing shape. Nice challenging golf course but not so frustrating that a high handicapper can’t have fun. The highlands course has several high elevated tee boxes along with some cool climbing holes. Grant was the Marshall today and he worked hard to make us all feel at ease and safe. Carry was on the beverage cart and was super attentive. Saw her 4 or 5 times in 18 holes. So cool.”

Stevens Park Golf Course is a public course in Dallas with a cute nickname—”Little Augusta” of North Texas.
They boast a course redesigned in 2011, with various mature trees and elevation changes. While the yardage might be shorter than some courses, they still offer challenging shots and strategic play, making it fun for golfers of all levels.
Another perk is the amazing views of the Dallas skyline! Who doesn’t love a scenic backdrop while golfing?
They also have a dedicated short game area for practicing chips, pitches, and bunker shots. We think this is a nice touch for golfers wanting to sharpen their skills.
Plus, all their carts are now equipped with GPS, making yardage calculations a breeze.
After your round, you can unwind at The Grill at Stevens Park. They have delicious food, generous drinks, and a fantastic patio overlooking the course.
Sadly, we noticed a few patchy areas on the course, lacking lush green grass.
Pros
- Offers challenging shots and strategic play
- Views of the Dallas skyline
- Has a dedicated short-game area
- Carts equipped with GPS
- Has an onsite restaurant and bar
Cons
- Few patchy areas on the course
Stevens Park Golf Course was an absolute gem!!
“Stevens Park Golf Course was an absolute gem!! The course was well kept and challenging enough to be fun! Sure we lost a few balls during the round, but it was all worth it for the views and gorgeous weather!! Rates were extremely reasonable and even included a cart with GPS. The grill had good food and generous drinks and the outdoor patio overlooking the 9th fairway/green was the perfect spot to chill, sip on a cocktail, and chat with your golf buddies. 10 / 10 would recommend and you may see me out there as I’ll be out there again for sure!! Hit ’em straight!!”

The course is in great shape
“The course is in great shape. There are some greens that are in the process of being repaired, but nothing too bad. Overall, it was a great experience. Pace of play was not an issue. Pro shop guys were great. The upgraded carts are very nice. Incredible view of downtown.”

History buffs and golf enthusiasts, take note—Cedar Crest Golf Course isn’t your average public course. This beauty was designed by legendary architect A.W. Tillinghast and even hosted the 1927 PGA Championship.
The course itself offers a classic challenge with rolling hills, strategically placed bunkers, and tree-lined fairways. We love its smooth greens—ideal for accurate putting—and for the raised greens with slopes, adding a layer of difficulty (in a good way!).
For those on a budget, Cedar Crest is a great option—the greens fees are reasonable, yet the course is still well-maintained and scenic. They even offer affordable golf instruction, perfect for golfers of all levels looking to improve their game.
Some customers told us that a few greens had patches of dirt. Not ideal, but we hope it’s not a widespread issue.

Cedar Crest and staff are absolutely incredible
“Cedar Crest and staff are absolutely incredible. They went above and beyond for myself and our group. We were celebrating my little brother getting married and they not only made sure everything was set and ready to go well before our tee time, they also had coolers in each cart filled with refreshments. Will absolutely recommend and visit again. Thank you cedar crest!”

The Clubs of Prestonwood in North Dallas boasts a pedigree dating back to 1968. With 36 holes of championship golf across two courses, it seems like a golfer’s paradise to us.
Their Creek Course offers a classic challenge, while the Hills Course, designed by Dave Bennett, promises exciting play with rolling hills, water features, and natural beauty.
They even have dedicated instruction for golf and tennis, junior programs, and a well-stocked pro shop with top brands. Basically, everything a golfer could need to improve their game and look good doing it.
Beyond golf, there are tennis courts, pickleball courts, a fitness center, pools, and even dining options! Sounds like you could spend a whole day (or weekend) here enjoying various activities.
The only catch we noticed were mentions of rude staff, both over the phone and in person.
Pros
- Established in 1968
- 36 holes of championship golf across two courses
- Golf and tennis lessons
- Golf junior programs
- Golf retail shops
- Complete amenities and dining options
Cons

Golf course was in amazing condition
“The golf course was in amazing condition. The driving range was full on balls. The pickleball ball and tennis courts were in brand new shape. You can play with your friends or family at Prestonwood. The food was great. Especially the steak filet, and chicken fingers. I would recommend this place to everyone. I would go there everyday if the week.”

Originally LB Houston, Luna Vista Golf Course had a recent makeover. It now boasts a beautiful short game area, strategic course layout, and multiple tee options to cater to all skill levels.
We think the course itself seems visually appealing, with newly sculpted fairways, white sand bunkers, and lush green complexes. They’ve also added landscaping touches like magnolias and ornamental grasses
In fact, the well-designed course and smooth pace of play can provide an enjoyable round of golf, even on a busy Saturday.
Beyond the course, there’s a practice facility for honing your skills, including a putting green, driving range, and short game area. And when you’re done playing, we suggest unwinding at their bar and grill or browsing the well-stocked pro shop.
Just be prepared for the possibility of encountering some areas that could benefit from better upkeep.
Pros
- Caters to all skill levels
- Newly sculpted fairways and white sand bunkers
- Putting green, driving range, and short game area
- Has a bar and grill and a pro shop
Cons
- Needs better upkeep

One of the best value for the money
“One of the best value for the money. I have played a lot of courses that weren’t near this nice. Most of them cost a lot more. Everyone was helpful and friendly. This course is great suprise at $32.50. Will definitely make a return trip.”
