The 3 Best Clay Shooting Spots in Dallas That Every Shooter Should Know About

You know, when I first tried clay shooting, I thought, how hard can it be to hit a flying Frisbee with a shotgun? Turns out, very!

My aim was so bad that the instructor jokingly handed the shotgun to the clay pigeons, saying they had a better shot at me.

But hey, I stuck with it, and now I only embarrass myself 50% of the time instead of 100%. Progress, right?

If you’re in Dallas and looking to dive into this surprisingly addictive sport, you’re in luck! There are some fantastic spots around here where you can sharpen your aim (or, like me, just learn not to miss spectacularly).

Here are the best clay shooting venues in town—trust me, I’ve missed clays at all of them!

1. Elm Fork Shooting Sports

Hours of operation:

  • Wednesday to Friday: 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

Elm Fork Shooting Sports has been a staple in the area since the mid-1960s, and with all that time to fine-tune things, it’s no wonder it stands out.

Sprawled across 467 acres, it’s not just your typical shooting range—it’s like the Disneyland of shooting sports! Whether you’re a total newbie or a seasoned pro, there’s something here to keep you entertained.

They’ve got everything covered: trap, skeet, sporting clays, rifles, handguns—you name it. The trap and skeet setup is well-designed, with 7 practice traps, an ATA and Wobble Trap, and 6 skeet fields with covered seating to keep you comfy.

But what really takes the experience to the next level are the sporting clays courses. You can test your skills on the 100 Target Woods Course, the Meadows Super Sport Course, or the 50 Target Vintage Course—it’s like a playground for shooters!

2. Dallas Gun Club

Dallas Gun Club, established back in 1946, is a private club with impressive facilities. Spread across 600 acres of lush grounds, they have everything you could want, from beginners to pros.

For clay shooting, you’ll find a bunch of different options like sporting clays, skeet, trap, and even helice (which is a bit of a unique challenge).

And it doesn’t stop there—there’s a FITASC and super sporting too for those looking to step things further. Plus, the rifle and pistol range is ideal for anyone wanting to mix it up a bit.

After an intense session, you’ll want to take a break (for sure), and the clubhouse is the perfect place to unwind. It’s cozy, with homey seating and big screens to catch the game. There’s even a gun locker room if you’re bringing your own gear.
